BUTTERFIELD - Sathith "Tommy" Meuangsaksith, age 54, of Butterfield, MN, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2026. 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Tommy at 12:00 PM on Friday, July 17, 2026, at the First Lutheran Church in Butterfield, MN (450 2nd St. S, Butterfield, MN 56120), with Pastor Joy Ekstedt officiating.

Visitation will take place from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM prior to the service on Friday.

Tommy was born on January 24, 1972 to Theuang and Khamta Meuangsaksith in Laos. Tommy and his family travelled to the United States as refugees during the Vietnam War at the age of 9. The family moved to several places including: Kansas, North Carolina, and Arkansas before settling in Butterfield, MN in 1992.

Tommy was outspoken, very adventurous, creative, and extremely intelligent. He spent most of his time showing people and everything around him compassion and love. During his younger years, he struggled with finding his place and purpose. He later devoted his time into becoming a better person and ended up finding community and truly getting to know people in Butterfield.

Tommy loved to care for his parents’ garden, cook, forage for mushrooms and cicadas, fish, and learning new things. During conversations, he was very inquisitive and always brought up random facts. He loved to dance and sing karaoke and knew all the songs on the radio and would say, “Of course I know this song, it’s my favorite song!”. Tommy would play cards and corn hole, a recent hobby, with his friends and family. He would ride his bike around town and helped anyone if he saw them in need. Something he was very recently proud of was being able to help build the new playground in Butterfield and cleaning the town after the storms.

Tommy’s most prized possession was his loved ones. He always had the biggest smile on his face when seeing them and only wanted to make them smile and laugh. He was an enigmatic social butterfly. Even if you didn’t know him, you would find to love how positive, high spirited, and persistent he was in everything he does.

Tommy will live long in the hearts of his children, Alyssa, Bryan, Caitlin (deceased), Katana, and Samira; grandchildren, Laela, Taedyn, Zara, and Leilani, Kiyomi; parents, Theung and Khamta; siblings; Phayvanh, Seng, Phet, Nik, Vicky, Bandith, and Smith; among many others including nephews and nieces and other family members.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Tommy’s family.
