Bob Arnold was born on November 23, 1958, to William and LaVonne (Bauer) Arnold in Oelwein, Iowa. He grew up in rural Fairbank, Iowa, and graduated from Fairbank High School with the class of 1977. Bob was always a farmer at heart who never had a farm. After graduation he began working for his neighbor, Ralph Wegner, on his crop and beef cattle farm.
Bob met the love of his life, Liz Geske, in 1979, at a Duck’s Unlimited Banquet in Oelwein, Iowa, and asked her to marry him on their second date! “When you know… you know!” - is something that Bob always said! They were married in August of 1980. Bob and Liz moved many times in their first years of marriage. Their first child, Jay, was added to their family in 1982. They then moved to Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, in May of 1985. They later welcomed their son, BJ in 1985, and their daughter, Anna, in 1990. The family moved to their acreage outside of Sherburn in 1994, where they raised their family. The kids were active in Watonwan County 4H, showing rabbits, swine, and beef cattle, and all graduated from MCW.
Bob settled into the swine business and worked for several operations during his career, including Greg Bartz in Sleepy Eye, Tande Farms in Madelia, Irv Sether in Jackson, Watonwan Feeder Pig Co-Op, Dennis Coleman in St. James, Mike Brandts in St. James, and Pipestone Systems in Truman. He ended his career with New Fashion Pork in Jackson, where he worked from 2012 until his retirement in 2025.
Bob fought a brave 21 month battle with cancer. After his diagnosis in February of 2025, he and Liz decided to cram as much bucket list travel as they could fit in the last year, putting on thousands of miles on “the F1”. He was very proud to say he never drove one of those miles! He enjoyed being the ‘passenger princess’ and looking for wildlife on their trips. Some of their favorite trips included Glacier National Park, driving the Beartooth Pass in Wyoming and Montana, Torch Lake Michigan, and Sequoia National Forest in California.
Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, raising chickens, road trips with his lovie, and spending time with his kids and grandkids. He always had time to share a story!
Bob will forever be remembered by his loving wife of 46 years, Liz; sons, Jay Arnold of Sherburn, BJ (Cindy Kuhnau) of Sherburn; daughter, Anna (Steven) Miller of Rochester; seven grandchildren, Angelina Arnold, Bentley Arnold-Tweedt, Billy Arnold, Shay Arnold, Sullivan Arnold, Lex Miller and Zuzu Miller; sister, Mary (Greg) Dietz of Clarksville, IA; brother, Tim (Carolyn) Arnold of Prairie du Chien, WI; brother-in-law, Jeff (Sharon) Geske of Peoria, IL; friend, Darla Price of Sherburn; and other relatives and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and LaVonne Arnold; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Arnold and Lucile (Waligorski) Geske.
