Lorraine was born on December 18, 1949, in Heron Lake, Minnesota, to the late Bernard “Bud” Volk and Olive Volk. She graduated from Windom High School in Windom, Minnesota. Laurie had a love for life and found joy in the simple things. She enjoyed traveling, sitting in the sunshine, and spending time with her family and friends. She had a remarkable talent for baking and cooking, especially decorating beautiful cakes, and spent much of her career as a cake decorator. She also had a passion for quilting, creating countless beautiful quilts and handmade treasures that will be cherished by her family for years to come. Laurie loved birdwatching, tending to flowers, and appreciating the beauty of nature.

Laurie will be remembered for her warm heart, her creative spirit, and the love she poured into everything she did - from decorating cakes and quilting beautiful keepsakes to tending her flowers and making lasting memories with those she loved most. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Rebecca “Becky” Ferguson, Daniel Killian, and Brian Killian; her grandchildren, Serena Sears, Lance Killian, and Eilan Killian; her great-grandchildren, Carson, Olivia, Gracie, Liam, and Elijah; her siblings, Roger (Judy) Volk, Brian (Diane) Lorengo-Volk, Brenda (Mike) Renczykowski, and Peggy (Doug) Wachal; her dear friends and caregivers, Belinda Woodral, Alisa Koci, and Monica Lawson, whose friendship, compassion, and devoted care brought her comfort and companionship during her final years; along with several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many cherished friends. Laurie was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard “Bud” Volk and Olive Volk; her grandparents as well as several beloved aunts, uncles, and dear friends.
