GRANADA - With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Dwayne Harlan Mortenson, who left this world on July 19th, 2026, at the age of 82. Dwayne passed peacefully at Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm, Minnesota.

On December 24th, 1943, in Story City, Iowa, Dwayne was born to Harold Mortenson and Ruth Spence (Gabrielson). The family moved to Winnebago in 1952 where he went to school. After graduation, Dwayne joined the Navy from 1962-1966 where he was a mechanic. He was honorably discharged from the USN after completing his 4 years of service.

On September 16th, 1967, Dwayne married Rose Mortenson (Schmidt) in Mankato, Minnesota at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. They resided in Minneapolis, Minnesota where they were blessed with 2 sons, Jeffrey and Matt. Dwayne and Rose spent 43 years exploring many journeys together; running restaurants, hog farming and rental businesses just to name a few. The couple moved back to the area when Dwayne took a job as a machinist at Electric Craft.

As a man of many hobbies, Dwayne particularly enjoyed riding motorcycle, fishing on his boat, basking in the sun on his porch, finding an old treasure with a motor and bringing it back to life again. Dwayne was no stranger to his community and enjoyed a good conversation with many friends.

Left to cherish his memory is his son, Matt (Betsy) Mortenson; sisters, Janet (Gary) Spence, Debbie Baarts, and Becky (Roy) Hohenstein; sisters-in-law, Roberta Mortenson and Patty Mortenson; grandsons, Jacob (Brooke) Mortenson, Zachary Mortenson, Hunter Mortenson, and Tyler Mortenson; ex-wife, Rose Mortenson; six great-grandsons; and four great-granddaughters; a niece and several nephews.

He is comforted in death by his parents, Harold and Ruth; brothers, Larry and Roger Mortenson; sister, Lynette Spence; son, Jeffrey Mortenson; and grandson, Jordan Mortenson.
