Charles R. “Charlie” Shearer, was born on May 21, 1932, to Russell and Doris (Trimmer) Shearer in rural Jackson. Charlie accepted Jesus as his personal savior as a teenager in high school and later reaffirmed his faith through baptism by immersion in 2022 at Swanson Pond. His faith remained a guiding part of his life. He graduated from Jackson High School with the class of 1950. After high school, Charlie attended a six-week Bible school in Hesston, Kansas.

On July 18, 1953, Charlie was united in marriage to Frances Yoder at Rocky Mountain Mennonite Camp in Divide, Colorado. Together they were blessed with four children - Roland, Rod, Ramona, and Rohn.

From a young age, Charlie knew he wanted to be a farmer. He began his lifelong career in agriculture working as a hired man for several years before beginning to farm on his own. Before returning to farming full-time, he worked at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs from 1953–1955.

Charlie dedicated many of his winters over a span of more than 30 years to mission work with the Gospel Missionary Union, serving in Ecuador, Kenya, Italy, and Florida. His faith and generosity touched countless lives around the world. Locally, Charlie and Frances served as leaders at the Fox Lake Chapel from 1956 - 1986.

In his spare time, Charlie enjoyed working on small woodworking projects. He loved the land, cherished his work, and found great joy in the simple blessings of life - especially time spent with his family.

Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Frances; children, Roland (Carla) Shearer, Rod (Janelle) Shearer, Ramona (Dan) Hinton, and Rohn (AmyJo) Shearer; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Verlon (Elaine) Shearer; and brothers-in-law, Don Swanson and Dave Storla; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Doris; sisters, Leola (Truman) Johnson, Rozetta (Sam) Birkey, Viola Jean Swanson, and Carol Storla; brother, Lyle Shearer; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Manassa and Elizabeth Yoder; and brothers-in-law, Charles (Grace) Yoder, Floyd (Emma) Yoder, and Johnnie (Liz) Yoder.
